K9 Nose Work® Classes

K9 Nose Work® is the new, exciting, dog sport that is designed to develop dogs’ natural scenting abilities by using their curiosity, desire to hunt, and their love of toys, food, and exercise. Nose work is great for all dogs, big or small, fearful, reactive, hearing impaired, or blind. During the class your dog will use her nose to find a specific scent or odor and then with your learning of her behavior will let you know when she has found it. Nose work helps any dog build confidence, burn a lot of mental and physical energy and best of all have FUN! This class lets gives your dog the opportunity to explore with their nose and solve problems, letting your dog be a dog. Nose work is proven to be a great activity for all types of dogs and one of the most accessible to the widest variety of dogs. No previous training is required—your dog was born with this natural instinct. Big dogs, little dogs and all the dogs in the middle are welcome and encouraged to join! Containers and Interiors
(1 once a week for 6-weeks)
This class will be offered throughout the year.This class is limited to 8 dogs per session. Each session consists of one 60-90 minute class per week, depending on how many dogs are in the class, for 6 weeks.

Prerequisite NW1 Intro 1 &/or with instructor’s approval
This class will expose the dogs/handler to harder searches involving higher hides, thresholds, semi-inaccessible hides, etc. while still on primary rewards.
(1 once a week for 6-weeks)
This class is limited to 6 dogs per session. Each session consists of one 60-minute class per week for 6 weeks.

Exteriors & Vehicles
This class will only be offered during late fall through early spring.
Prerequisite NW1 Intro 1 &/or with instructor’s approval.

Interiors & Containers

This class is introduce the odor Birch as we revisit the Interior and Container elements. This class is limited to 6 dogs per session. Each session consists of one 60-minute class per week for 6 weeks.

NW5 K9 Nose Work® Continuing Odor

Interiors & Containers with Exterior & Vehicles when weather permits

Prerequisite NW4 &/or with instructor’s approval
(1 once a week for 6-weeks)

This class will continue by having harder searches, inaccessible hides, high hides, etc. When weather permits exterior and vehicle searches will be included.  All 3 odors (birch, anise & clove) will be used during the 6 week class. Exterior classes will be held outdoors even if it is raining so please come dressed accordingly. We will move indoors if lightning is an issue. Please come properly dressed for inclimate weather.  This class is limited to 8 dogs per session. Each session consists of one 90-minute class per week for 6 weeks.

Prerequisites: NW5 &/or with Instructor permission.
This class is for those who have completed the K9 Nose Work Strand and are interested in increasing their dogs exposure to different environments, more difficulty and preparation for a K9 Nose Work trial or an AKC Scent Work Trial. Each week we will meet at different locations for searching practice. It is encouraged that each participant offer suggestions of a place to use if possible. Some ideas are parks, buildings, garages, schools, churches, etc.
